Edmond and Luke came into the Jobfind CDEP office earlier this week and we took them down to the naked pools for a go on our cameras. This was the first time these guys had used them, and by the results you can see they got pretty involved with it!
While we were there I got into a conversation with them about the place.
For those who don’t know, it’s a relatively croc free swimming hole out here on Groote Eylandt and has been used for a long time by the local indigenous people.
While talking to them and showing them the camera functions we noticed a bunch of rubbish left there from someone else, I asked them how they felt about it and they both began to tell me how it was “bad to see people disrespect their land and making it dirty and that they had kept it clean for as long as their people had lived there”
It is a tourist destination on the island and many people use the pools in the hot weather, it is sad that people don’t always have the decency to pick up rubbish from such a beautiful place.
People, no matter what walk of life they come from, need to start thinking about the ramifications of their actions.
