Spearfishing at Picnic Beach

Last week we travelled out to Picnic Beach for the boys weekly ‘going out bush day’.
It’s in the Umbakumba area.
The road is bitumen, then dirt plus a shallow creek crossing and then sand, miles of sandy tracks.
4WD only or you WILL get bogged!

02

If you look closely in this photo by Lukane you can see Dale one of the Jobfind CDEP mentors in the back ground shooting a photo of the troopy as it cruises through the shallow creek crossing.

03

the super scenic track to Picnic Beach goes along the beach and then suddenly veers off and heads inside the
massive Banyan tree on the left here.

04

Dayne and Wayne have  a quick sit down while Lukane, Ralston and Logan go and take some snaps of the tree

05

The Banyan tree species is also highly regarded by Bonsai lovers for its ornamental value, that being the amazingly complex root system, the photos below are all of the same tree.
It has a really wild system of roots/trunks, amazing!

06

Lukane poses for a shot below a section of the tree

07

The road through the tree, yes, that’s the same tree on either side. MASSIVE!

You gotta see it to believe how awesome it is!

Logan decided to collect a bunch of thongs and other stuff because he thought it would make an interesting photo.
I think he was correct in doing so!

Eating lunch on the beach under the bows of a willow, not a bad way to do it…

Ralston takes a snap of himself and a freshly speared parrot fish, nice!

Deep sand + Heat = Bogged….

Lucky we have a winch and plenty of man power, Dane unfurls the winch below, another shot by Logan.

Lucky it took only ten minutes to get out of the sand, soon enough we were back on bitumen and heading back
