The Geelong Cats go spearfishing on Groote

Part of the Geelong Cats indigenous program was to come and visit Groote Eylandt in early November.
The Cats footy program was started in 2007 in the Northern Territory around Gove and East Arnhem Land and Groote.
After about 8 seasons of no footy, the Geelong Cats were able to help with the establishment of another footy league
in 2009, much to the local community's delight.

To add to the players experience, the Jobfind CDEP crew from Angurugu and Umbakumba gor together with some locals from both the aforementioned towns and took them out to experience some local lifestyle, spearfishing in the Amagula River!

As you can see by the pics all the boys got involved, but only one fish was caught that day, which if you have been there more than once, will know that it's a rarity to get so little. Maybe too many people in the water scared everyone off? hahaha.
Anyway, big thanks to the Geelong Cats for coming out and working some positive football magic out here on Groote!
